Location

The workshop will be held at the Inselhotel, Potsdam – Hermannswerder in Germany. The hotel is ideally situated on a small, environmentally protected peninsula. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape and is conveniently located about 45-60 minutes by taxi from the center of Berlin and its major airports (Tegel, Tempelhof and Schönefeld). Detailed travel directions will be provided on this page sometime soon. The close proximity to Potsdam’s historic palaces and parks further adds to the charm of the area.

1. By plane

Flights may arrive at any of the three major airports of Berlin (Tegel, Tempelhof, Schönefeld). If you have a choice, we suggest to arrive at Tegel or Tempelhof Airports.
  • From Tegel Airport (TXL, Berlin):
      A) Public transportation (51min)
      The ticket for the entire trip costs 4,50 DM and is valid for two hours. It may be purchased at the ticket machine at the bus stop or from the bus driver by asking for a ticket for zones ABC. However, the driver may not have change for 50 DM or 100 DM bills, so use coins or have 10 DM or 20 DM bills at hand.
      1) Take the Bus 109 towards Hertzallee exit at S-Charlottenburg (11 stops)
      2) Change to the S-Bahn S7 towards Potsdam Hauptbahnhof and exit at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (7 stops).
      3) From Potsdam Hauptbahnhof we will provide a free shuttle service to the Inselhotel from 15:00 to 20:00 of the 21st. Alternatively you may take a yellow taxi to the Inselhotel Hermannswerder (the fare should be around 10-15 DM + about 10% tip).

      The bus from Tegel Airport leaves about every 10-20 minutes. In the nighttime there is no connection from Tegel Airport to the Inselhotel between 0:19AM and 4:59AM (Sunday 22, July).

      B) Yellow Taxi (depending on traffic conditions about 45min to 1h 30min)
      The fee for the ride to Potsdam should be about 75 DM (+ about 10% tip) and can be shared.   • From Tempelhof Airport (THF, Berlin):
      A) Public transportation (55min)
      The ticket for the entire trip costs 4,50 DM and is valid for two hours. It may be purchased at the ticket machine at the bus stop or from the bus driver by asking for a ticket for zones ABC. However, the driver may not have change for 50 DM or 100 DM bills, so use coins or have 10 DM or 20 DM bills at hand.
      1) Take the Bus 104 towards Brixplatz and exit at S-Westkreuz (23 stops)
      2) Change to the S-Bahn S7 towards Potsdam Hauptbahnhof and exit at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (6 stops).
      3) From Potsdam Hauptbahnhof we will provide a free shuttle service to the Inselhotel from 15:00 to 20:00 of the 21st. Alternatively you may take a yellow taxi to the Inselhotel Hermannswerder (the fare should be around 10-15 DM + about 10% tip).

      The bus from Tempelhof Airport leaves about every 10-20 minutes. In the nighttime there is no simple connection from Tempelhof Airport to the Inselhotel between 23:30 and 5:29 (Saturday/Sunday 21/22, July).

      B) Yellow Taxi (depending on traffic conditions about 45min to 1h 30min)
      The fee for the ride to Potsdam should be about 85 DM (+ about 10% tip) and can be shared.   • From Schönefeld Airport (SXF, Berlin):
      A) Regionalbahn RB (55 min)
      This train-service by the Deutsche Bundesbahn connects small cities. The direct RB-train leaves from S-Flughafen Berlin Schönefeld five minutes to the full hour from 5:55 to 20:55 and arrives at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof 55 minutes later (10 stops).

      B) Yellow Taxi (depending on traffic conditions about 45min to 1h 30min)
      The fee for the ride to Potsdam should be about 95 DM (+ about 10% tip) and can be shared.       Arrive at the Potsdam train station Potsdam Hauptbahnhof DB. A free shuttle service between the Inselhotel and the Potsdam train station will be available from 15:00 to 20:00 of the 21st. Alternatively you may take a yellow taxi to the Inselhotel Hermannswerder (the fare should be 10-15 DM + about 10% tip).
